ABOUT OUR ART GROUP
The Group was originally formed in 1971 as the Nelson Independent Art Group Inc. and the name was changed in June 2005 to ART GROUP NELSON INC.
The main aim of the group is fostering and encouraging artists at all levels. Our meetings are an opportunity to see or hear about an aspect of art, workshops help hone skills, and Group exhibitions get your art into the world. There are many smaller groups that get together in Nelson to do art together, organized by members, or shared by members who attend. Art Group Nelson is a great way to continue to learn tips and skills, to get involved in Nelson's rich art community, and to socialize with other artists.
There is no selection process for joining the Group and all members are welcome to display their work in Group exhibitions.
The Group is a mix of beginners, hobbyists, and professional artists. All are welcome.

UPCOMING COMMITTEE VACANCIES
We are looking for some key roles to be filled.
We'd like to thank our President, Karen Loten, Vice President, Robbie Burns, and Treasurer, Glenis Ambrose for their dedication and hard work serving on the committee. They will be stepping down at the next AGM and we are looking to fill these roles. We hope to fill the treasurer role early in the year, so Glenis can help with the transition before she's away in June.
These three roles are critical to the ongoing operation of the group, as per our Constitution. So if you've been thining about taking a turn on the committee, or you'd like to know more about the responsibilities, please get in touch with any of the committee members, or through our contact info on the site.
MONTHLY MEETINGS
Meetings take the form of a social evening with perhaps a guest speaker on an art-related topic, a hands-on creative session led by an experienced artist, helpful discussion of members' work, or a video of some art form. The evenings conclude with 'Show & Tell', where the members share their work, gain invaluable feedback and have the opportunity to talk to other members.
A monthly Newsletter keeps members informed of forthcoming meetings, exhibitions, tutorial workshops, open painting days and other items of interest.
