Art in the Park 2026

Wow! What a day! This year there was no compulsive checking of weather forecasts or nail-biting decisions about postponing due to looming rain (unlike last year!). Instead, the sun shone and delivered a classic Nelson summer’s day. The crowds rolled in and the artwork sold — something Luanne, Sandee and Sonja can certainly vouch for, as they barely had time to draw breath at the sales table.

The final figures more than confirmed the buzz on the day, with total sales reaching a phenomenal $34,197.80 — exceeding what we thought was an outstanding result last year of $26,124.00.

Out of 48 sellers, an impressive 41 sold at least one artwork, with 246 receipts written throughout the day. To further support artists, commission — usually set at 15% — was reduced to 11%, ensuring more income went directly back to those who created the work.

Events like this simply don’t happen without an enormous amount of behind-the-scenes effort. We are incredibly grateful to the many volunteers who loaded and unloaded display stands, installed billboards, and delivered flyers to mailboxes and at the market — along with the countless other jobs that keep everything running smoothly. Our biggest thanks go to Jill Richards and her team, who once again made Queens Gardens a resounding success.

We must also thank the many visitors who came along to show their support. Every sale, every thoughtful exchange or simply stopping to look, puts a smile on an artist’s face and gives a real boost. We really appreciate everyone who chose to spend part of their summer’s day with us in Queens Gardens.

Of course, none of this would be possible without our artists. We received so many comments throughout the day praising the exceptional quality, diversity, and professionalism of the work on display. Our artists continue to raise the bar year after year, and we are immensely proud of what they all bring to this event.

Roll on 2027!
