We have enjoyed some wonderful guest speakers at our monthly meetings, the latest being Luke Dell of Nelson City Framers and Gallery on Halifax Street Nelson. Luke entertained us with his life history of how he became a picture framer and now artist. He then stepped into the serious side of framing with many hints and tips of how to showcase art to its best using the correct enhancing type of frame. He demonstrated this with examples of many types of framed work and even found an outstanding ornate gilded, traditional frame which perfectly complimented our own Robbie Burns’ still life of green grapes and pears. Many stages of Luke’s framing is now done by computerised machines but with always the place for hand finishing where appropriate.
The key learning from Luke was that;
‘the frame should not fight with the work.’
Our next meeting on 1st June 2022 at Greenmeadows will be the AGM and will start a little earlier at 7pm. This is the most important meeting of the year. Murray Campbell will be giving a visually illustrated talk on the history of AGN.
We have a number of ‘retiring’ committee members who have done stirling work for our group namely Shirley Whitmore as treasurer and Emily Lake as events coordinator. Some members of the existing committee are prepared to stand again but please we now need a few more
members to take the plunge and join in the future decision making. Next year we will be celebrating the big Golden 50 years of AGN and more members are needed to help with this. Our committee members have learned how to ZOOM, which has helped the group to tick along. Much support and laughter is given so give it a go.
The Putangitangi Greenmeadows Centre has now been booked for our Winter Exhibition which will be held on 13th and 14th August 2022. So any help to plan and run this event will be much appreciated. I have already applied for grants and hope for a successful outcome.
I welcome any comments/feedback/suggestions so don’t be shy.
Karen
President AGN
