PRESIDENT’S BLOG FEBRUARY 2023

How time flies, with three months flown by since my previous blog. I have had adventures on the West Coast as far north as Karamea and as far south as Methven, where my son and family have just relocated. If you have never visited Mid Canterbury outback then put it on your bucket list. With rainbow trout caught at Lake Camp, adjacent to Lake Clearwater, to a long swim around the lake edge in crystal clear water, topped by a background of snow capped mountains even in January. Yes I did take my sketch book so have plenty of stored emotional memories to further paint.

The December Meeting had a great party atmosphere with a 50th Birthday Anniversary cake cut by two of our life members. Such a special celebration with all eight life members receiving a book to commemorate the first 50 years of Art Group Nelson. Party food and drink flowed with an ‘art get to know you’ game proving popular. Several art pieces provided by members provided interesting talking points and a childlike spirit was evoked in all who took part in the communal painting. A night to remember too if you were a lucky winner of one of the many free raffle prizes on offer. Thank you AGN Committee members for putting on such a great event at Pūtangitangi Greenmeadows. Many photos taken by Vaughan Scott are on our facebook page for you to enjoy.

January’s Art in the Park was a celebration of its 50th year of the event. Quite an achievement for a small club. However our numbers are growing and the exhibition space is not, so ideas for who exhibits may need some thought. The event was the most successful ever in terms of sales and we are the envy of many other organisations throughout New Zealand because of the unique venue of Queen’s Gardens. Thank you once again to the committee and friends who put in so many hours to make this event happen. Please like and share our facebook, Instagram, and website as this is a great form of advertising.

2023 Workshop places are going fast so avoid disappointment by signing up early and not waiting to last minute. The "Events" page on this site has all the information. This is the upcoming March workshop...

Sadly this month two committee members have resigned due to personal reasons so if you want to join the team then please contact me ASAP.

Remember the 5W’s that I spoke about in the February meeting?

Why? - Who? - When? What? - Where?

Take down any art that does not give you joy or makes you smile in your own home for a start. Replace with some of your own work. Life is too short not to be surrounded by things that give you joy. Remember you only fail when you stop trying. Most of all have fun!
